McArthur, OH – Coach Brent Martin has announced the signing of Vinton County High School Senior Jerika Smith to his 2017 Recruiting Class.  Jerika is a 2017 graduate of Vinton County and is the daughter of Daryl Smith.

Jerika has played on the varsity team for two years, both years occupying the first singles spot.  Her coach, NJ Kite, said "she is probably the best girls player to have played at our school."  She is the first women's tennis athlete from VCHS to sign a National Letter of Intent for Women's Tennis.  Coach Martin says, "I couldn't be more excited to have Jerika on my team for next year.  She is a solid tennis player and a perfect fit for OCU Tennis.  I look for her to add depth to our returning roster and allow us to compete at a higher level.  I see Jerika as a type of recruit I would like to have on my team now and even in the future years."

Jerika joins Athina Peterson, Chelsi Mason and Lauren Copeland as newcomers for the 2017-2018 season.  Drayah Johnston, Emily Miller, Kaylee Dickson and Ja'Sherrell Scott all plan to return to give Coach Martin optimism heading into the school's second season as a varsity sport.  Jerika plans to attend OCU in the Fall of 2017 and is interested in Music Education.
